Once I walked the hidden
valleys
Of a life filled full of
sin. |
Never looked at all for
Jesus |
So the Devil took me in. |
He made great and
splendid offers, |
Mines of silver,
hordes of gold. |
And led me through
the splendor
Of those worldly
lusts of old. |
He said all
this I will
give you, |
If you’ll
just follow
me along. |
So behind
him I did
scramble, |
And I sang
his worldly
song. |
But
the
pleasures
I was
seeking |
Turned
to
chains
about
my
shell, |
And
the
glory
of his
presence |
Turned
to
bars
around
my
cell. |
| Then one day in bitter anguish, |
| I cried out, “Oh Lord above.” |
| Jesus tore my chains asunder |
| And set me free. “Oh! perfect love.” |
